Final
Stage Residential Recovery Projects
It is important to recognise that people who
have completed their initial programme of recovery, may not wish, or be
able, to return 'home'; it is also important that they do not stay in
primary rehabilitation projects longer than is necessary. Shared houses
in Gravesend, Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone offer a two year period of
stability with a mixture of educational, voluntary and work experience,
opportunities.
A place to 'test'
recovery, without 'risking' it!
At some point in the recovery process there is a
need for the person in recovery to turn their attention from looking
inward to a more outward stance.
Without ignoring personal issues, the recovering
individual needs to develop and rehearse strategies for life, that
allow them to 'test' but not 'risk' their new substance-free lifestyle.
This is especially so where there is no supportive home or family
environment to which people can return.
As far as possible we recommend that the
foundations for this should be laid within a first-stage rehabilitation
programme with Kenward Trust or other recognised agency.
Recognising that often individuals have various
restrictions upon the length of time they really need to complete this
process we have developed a range of Final Stage Residential Projects.
These are mostly in small familysized properties in a variety of
locations, offering individual bedrooms in shared
housing, with communal facilities for social and group activities.
Gravesend, Maidstone and
Southborough
These houses provide a further step in the
recovery process and offer greater independence than other Kenward
houses. The individually based 'programme', is designed to be outward
looking, with visiting staff actively encouraging residents to be
involved in further education, voluntary work or engaged in job
training, within the local community.
These projects take a maximum of five residents
each in a shared house environment with single bedrooms.
Where appropriate people moving into these
projects from first stage programmes, may be required to attend a
Chrysalis Structured Day Programme for an agreed period.
Finance
Whilst providing support, these projects are not
Registered Care Homes and as such are funded from a combination of
Housing Benefit/Supporting People payments and DSS income. In some
instances a payment will be required from the originating local
authority for the day care support, being provided.
Staff and management of these projects are, in
common with those in all Kenward Trust projects, committed Christians
who seek to express their faith in their everyday lives.
